II Chronicles 36. The picture above is Blake’s painting of Nebuchadnezzar.
This chapter deals with the last 4 kings of Israel, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. All of these kings did what is displeasing to Yahweh, apparently taking part in the worship of the native God. The final straw is that the priests and people become increasingly unfaithful, and desecrate the Temple. The people refuse to repent despite the pleas of the prophets. The Chaldaeans capture Jerusalem, and the people are exiled until the time of Cyryus. Cyrus pledges to rebuild the Temple, and authorizes the return to Israel.
Next up Amos.
