Auschwitz, shown above, was liberated by Russian forces. The US, beginning in April 1945 liberated Buchenwald, Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, Dachau, and Matthausen. In 1948 Harry Truman made the US the first nation to recognize the state of Israel.
That proud history has now been sent to the scrap heap. By calling for a return to the 1967 borders, which are indefensible, the Obama administration has abandoned a people with whom the US has historic ties of friendship, and has set it up for eventual destruction by the failed states, kleptocrats, and tyrants of its neighbors.
It should be obvious, even to Obama, that his charm and charisma have not caused
the rise of the oceans to slow, nor has the planet begun to heal.* Events in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Japan should surely show the hubris of that speech. His charm, which is greatly mis-overestimated, will not dissuade Hamas from pursuing the extinction of Israel.

Any real chance of peace in the region can only come from the recognition of two fundamental truths:
Israel has a right to exist.
Jews, and other religions, have a right to the free exercise of religion, and to the full exercise of civil rights.
The first might be accepted. The second requires the adoption of Lockean-Jeffersonian-Madisonian principles, and the reform of Islam. I doubt whether the second will ever be accepted.
By betraying Israel, Obama has fundamentally betrayed the principles at the heart of Western democracy, and has aligned himself with the forces of racism, intolerance, and oppression.
